A root canal procedure focuses on removing the soft center of your tooth, known as “the pulp.” The pulp starts at the crown of your tooth and ends right at the tip of the root, connecting to tissues around the root. It is made up of connective tissue, blood vessels and nerves. All these components are essential for a tooth to grow.

Our dentists will efficiently remove the infected pulp, careful to cleanse the inside of the tooth, then seals the space. Finally, one of our root canal dentists will walk you through the process perform the procedure you are under local anesthesia.

When is Root Canal Needed

A root canal is only needed when damage is done to the center or “pulp” of the tooth. When the pulp becomes injured, inflamed or infected, a root canal procedure will keep the crown intact while removing the infected plump while maintaining the integrity of the tooth structure.

What Is The Root Canal Process

The root canal procedure will be performed at our dental office in Vaughan.

1. Anesthetic

Our root canal dentist will apply a small amount of numbing cream to the gums around the affected took. Once the cream takes effect, we will inject a local anesthetic into your gums.

2. Remove Pulp

Once numb, the dentist will make a small opening at the top. Once the infected pulp is visible, our professionals will carefully remove and clean out your tooth.

3. Antibiotics

Once the damaged pulp is removed, we apply a coat of topical antibiotics to minimize the chance of infection or re-infection.

4. Temporary Filling

Once cleaned and sealed, our root canal dentists will close the small opening made at the top of the tooth with a sealer paste. The sealer paste helps to minimize the chances of the canal being infected by saliva.
